Our Programs: Project CHOICE
On July 1, 2007, HeartShare Human Services began a new program called Project CHOICE (Creative Housing Options for Individuals in Challenging Environments) and became part of the New York City Resource Consortium. Project CHOICE selected 15 adults with developmental disabilities who were in need of creative, individualized and small housing alternatives. Additionally, training and technical assistance were provided to those individuals and key people in their lives.
The Consortium is comprised of four New York City service providers, including HeartShare, and was funded by a special grant from the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) and the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC). Project CHOICE was a two-year program through the Consortium. For more information about the New York City Resource Consortium, individuals selected to participate and lessons learned throughout the process, you may view A Handbook for Success or contact HeartShare at (718) 422-3268.
