A Day to Remember: Heartshare Education Center Celebrates the Class of 2026

At Heartshare Education Center, graduation ceremonies are anything but traditional. That’s because everyone present, from the students to the staff to the families and supporters, is an extraordinary individual. From the moment one walked through the door at this year’s ceremony, the inspiring, electrifying energy immediately set the tone for a celebration years in the making.
This year, we celebrated five remarkable students with developmental disabilities who have worked hard, grown immensely, and are ready for the next chapter ahead: Zach, Ashlly, Chad, Matthew, and Christian.
From the start, this was never going to be a small affair — and it wasn't. Fellow students across other grades joined in, filling the room alongside families and friends, dedicated staff, Heartshare board members, and even a few of our adult community members with developmental disabilities from nearby Heartshare programs, all of whom came together to cheer on our graduating classmates.
Director of Education, Reggie Stephens, opened the day's celebration with a few welcoming remarks, followed by Chief Program Officer of Education, Day & Community Services, Danielle Elkins. Both reinforced the special journey these students have been on, serving as a testament to their perseverance.
“Success looks different for every individual, and today we celebrate every single step forward, every achievement, every milestone that has brought you here today.”
Danielle Elkins, Chief Program Officer of Education, Day & Community Services
The ceremony was soon brought to life through a series of special performances developed in collaboration with Heartshare's music therapy program and teaching artist Lloyd Miller. Two of the graduating students took center stage in unforgettable ways: Ashlly wowed the crowd with the Ariana Grande power anthem “Break Free,” while Christian delivered an electrifying Michael Jackson performance of “Rock With You.” Fellow students Noah and Attaoye, along with the newly formed student drumming group, also performed in celebration of their graduating peers — a powerful reminder of the bonds formed within these school walls.
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for: the certificate presentation and the official turning of the tassels. Our five graduates, surrounded by everyone who believed in them, marked a milestone that matters deeply — not just for them, but for every family, educator, and supporter who walked this road alongside them.
No celebration is complete without something sweet, and Heartshare's very own student-run businesses, Bake & Bloom, provided delicious treats for everyone to enjoy after the ceremony.
Heartshare Education Center exists because every student deserves the chance to thrive. For students with developmental disabilities, having access to a supportive, inclusive, and high-quality educational environment isn't just important — it's transformative. The Class of 2026 is living proof of what becomes possible when the right people, programs, and community surround a student and refuse to give up on them.
Congratulations to our five 2026 graduates. We are so proud of you.
