Moore Residence Homecoming After Last Year’s Fire

February 14, 2018

Community

Six women with disabilities who were displaced following a fire last year will be returning to their home in Eltingville, Staten Island.

“It’s been a long journey,” shared Joyce Levin, Executive Vice President for Developmental Disabilities Services at HeartShare. The six women were driven from their home and stayed several weeks at Hampton Inn. Following that, they moved into temporary housing, also on Staten Island.

The fire was devastating, as it destroyed the entire group home for the women and all of their possessions. The home was completely renovated and is nearly ready for the move this March. The women were thrilled to take a sneak peak early February, which helped them select furniture and other items for their rooms.

“We were fortunate to have the support of the community immediately following the fire,” said Levin. “You can still help by making a financial contribution, which will allow the ladies to make their home comfortable again.”
